So since I'm new at this, and am not sure whether this is a girl or boy, thought you guys might be able to help. Seems I should be able to sex it at this size, from what the lady at the local reptile shop said. (Yay! I found a dedicated reptile store!!)

Approx 6 months old by clerk's guess...

Looks female to me. Here's a picture showing the difference.

Cool beans! Thanks guys!!

So if I wanted to get her a male friend, how long should I wait?

snakewrangler

I would play it super safe and say 100 grams.

Sounds good. Guess I should get a scale. Or maybe I could just bring her to the lizard store with me and have them weigh her. At what age do they typically get up to 100 grams?

Inexpensive scales can be found through Walmart and other similar stores. I got mine (digital kitchen scale up to 5lbs and however many grams that is) for about $40. You'll want it for the babies, too - so you may as well go ahead and get one. I love justification items! ::) ;D

Seth, females don't get that heavy. My male is about 100 grams, but both my females are around 70.

Wait until they are at least 55 grams, if not 60-70 to put them together. The heavier the better, as they will lose weight when breeding.

We use a digital postal scale. One thing to check when buying the scale is the precision. Ours only measures in increments of 5 grams. Not very accurate for weighing small reptiles.

You're right. I guess they don't gain too much once they hit breeding weight. The female that I saw that was 100+ was one of the Tremper Giants.

Duly noted... if I wait for 100 grams... I won't get to have a male. Got it! ;)

Rule of thumb for female breeding weight is 55 grams, but I think I'd wait till she hit 60 or so also.

How many grams equals an overweight gecko then?

LOL...like the gecko can understand a word spoken... ::). One of the foster dogs we have - Lucy - we call her dumb-*** and squirrel brain (I swear she's ADHD) all the time. She's not really a dumb-*** - but the name fits with some of the stupid stuff she does. Anyway - we can change her name to that (she really does turn her head for that name) and she will wag her tail just the same. They don't care - food, water and a place to sleep - they're happy no matter the name... ;D.

Quig

LOO, dogs don't care. As long as you use a pleasant voice you can call them the most vile things and they think you love them ;D. It's the tone that matters not the words

Aww she just looks very healthy! Speaking of "off" pets, My sweet but slow cat in my icon pic has a neurotic twitch about having the bedroom door slightly ajar. He starts crying and jumps on top of the door (usually in the wee am hours >:() You hear a loud BAM as the door hits the wall, the wall hits him and he crash lands on our bed. He is the sweetest little thing, but certainly not the sharpest tool in the shed ;)

She's adorable!! I can't wait for my little girl to gain some weight. She looks a little thin compared to others I've seen. :)

P.S. Poops are back to normal now. Yay! ;D

I've always thought Siamese were a little off mentally ;D Don't get me wrong, I've met some very nice ones. I just don't trust them sometimes. ;)

We have had 4 Siamese over the years. Out of those 4 - all 4 had strange quirks. The one thing they all had in common was their vocal nature. They're talking cats and you can sometimes hold a lengthy conversation with them... ;D...but more often than not... they are demanding something with that awful "MEOWL" they can do... ::)

Quig
01-27-2008, 02:33 PM
Yes, they ARE vocal ;D. Is actually one of the things I enjoy about them. A couple I knew had an evil streak in em though. :o.

Lol. Quig you sound like my husband. Siamese are definitely VOCAL to put it lightly. When people call me they say who's that screaming baby in the backround?! :o They are definitely the most affectionate and needy (like babies) I couldn't live without one!
