I've recently heard that all the Petsmart's in MN are going to carry snakes now ... before it was up to the managers of each store. I'm not sure if this is nationwide tho. I just hope they give their employees good training on info and care of snakes.

Weird. When I worked at the one here (over the summer) we weren't allow to sell them because we do not sell live food. Now Petco here sells them, they went $100 for a regular Ball, and $40-$50 for a corn. These weren't even that large either, couldn't believe it.

I can't stand Petco ... especially the one by my house . They have NO idea what they're doing ! Everytime I go in there theres a dead reptile in a cage . Usually a corn snake or a leo . It makes me angry ... then when you mention something to them about it they're like oh ... yeah he's just sleeping or some other BS excuse . Petsmart ... don't get me started there either ... >:(

I was able to make quite an impression at a Petco... ;D. When i first went in I didn't have a camera and I did complain to the "dept. expert" (17 yr. old kid) and then the manager. I wasn't able to get back until the next week to pick up my daughter's flute for repairs (about 75 miles from home in the vicinity of the pet store). This time I had a camera. They were VERY nervous. I told them a picture is worth a thousand words and if the place didn't provide better for the animals when they're obviously sick any pictures taken would go to the proper authorities. This day the animals looked good though. No pics needed. The sick mountain horned dragon was removed as were the dead and mummified tree frogs. Take pictures first before any confrontation - and any old Joe can do this. I haven't seen a dead animal since and that was over 5 yrs ago... ;) ...although I only get in there maybe 5-6 times a year.

Thats a great idea Prism !! I know I'm going to be watching them ... not because I work at a rival shop but because I want them to take care of the reptiles properly .. just like they should do for any animal.

I asked at the Petsmart closest to my house and they asked what kind of snake I wanted .. that they could order anything. I said "anything ?" then she revised it and said well we're going to sell Ball Pythons, Kingsnakes and Cornsnakes. I was laughing inside cause if I'd asked for some of the snakes I know of they probably would have given me the :o look !! ;D. "I'd like to order a Pinstripe Ball Python please "

As to their pricing ... its out of whack. I've seen normal Corns there for $100 ! And then some Ball pythons that were only $30 but they were small and thin .. they weren't eating .. but the person said she didn't know when I asked.

I'll be keeping an eye on them tho. And if I see something wrong I'm gonna be blunt and right to the point about it.
