I really like Whites Tree Frogs and Red Eye Tree Frogs. I was thinking about setting up a nice big tank with a mix of them and maybe a blue tree frog or some other kind. I did a little research before and didn't see any info of white's eating smaller frogs. Apparently I didn't do enough. :P

Can I mix red eye tree frogs and green or blue tree frogs together?

Or what species (of frog, lizard, anything) mix well?

Or should I just drop the idea of mixing species all together. ;D

This tank won't be set up for another year at last, but I was thinking about starting a smaller one (18 x 18 x 18) a bit sooner.

Thanks :)

Generally, unless the animals are from the same part of a particular area, they should be kept seperate. I realize tree frogs are tree frogs ;), but the husbandry from one to another may be different. Ambient temps and humidity may differ, and there is the issue of size difference. a larger one would likely eat a smaller one. Then you'd wind up with one FAT frog all alone LOL.

As to mixing frogs and maybe lizards, again if they are from the same area or climactic conditions it might work. I have had a grey tree frog and a five-lined skink in a 30 gallon tall for a little over a year now and it's working well.

Haha, funny, I didn't think about having the animals all coming from the same area. Ah, so much more I got to learn and keep in mind. ;)

Thanks! I'll definitely be doing a lot more research before trying this, if I do end up deciding to. :)

i've talked to some of the local reptile store owners here and the only things i've heard about mixing species is putting a white's in with a skink or another lizard/gecko from the same climate. but i bet research would be your best bet.

I was wondering the same thing. I have read on some web sites that red eyed tree frogs are good in community tanks and good tank mates where the whites tree frog. I was wanting to do the same thing!

Look into Paludariums for community set-ups. A lot of work, but sure worth the effort if done well... ;)

You can keep American Green Tree frogs and Green Anoles together, they come from the same parts of the US. I have 6 anoles and 3 Green Tree frogs and 3 Long Tailed Grass Lizards in a 55g tank.

My only concern might be if one species got larger than the other. Larger to the point that it may look at its cagemate as a snack ;). Otherwise as long as the husbandry for both is the same it should be OK.

Ya, all in all mixing species is not recommended. I bought the Viv pre-stocked with the animals in it from a guy on CL. On my own I wouldn't mix species like that.

Still it is cute to see the little female anoles stand on a frog.

Exactly so. Mixing species is a tricky balance and you have to know each size and limitations and dangerous possibilities. There are competitions for these little micro environments and a lot of money, time and effort are gone into doing it in the safest way they can with a very natural look. Some of them are incredible!!

IMO - You really need to learn how to care for each species as an individual first before getting into keeping them as a community project.
