Hope you love him as much as I do!
He looks great. Nice and clean. It sure is a switch from seeing wild ones with all that algae growing on their shells.

i've pulled over a countless amount of times on the backroads (highways and interstates) of NC to pull these guys out of the way. I never kept one as a pet though, one of my mom's teachers kids would've lost a finger not listening...
still spunky little guys, and yours is adorable to boot.

How big is he? And what's he eating?
I got a little guy down stairs that is eating small goldfish and a pinky here and there.

He is beautiful... His shell really looks great. How agressive? I keep hearing different stories?

Thanks, there are many wild ones around where i live (london ON), mississauga is also known to be there home land ;)

Well he is 3-4 1/2 pounds (a few months ago he was ;D) His shell is 4 inches (around) and his tail and neck + head are the same. He eats pellets (reptomin, unti-parasite, just in case, and a few more.) crickets and goldfish. How big is your guy cause to eat pinkies he must be pretty big...well mine is pretty small compared to how big they grow. I didn't think that that many people keep snappers as pets- mostly because of the terrible things people say (biting fingers etc.)

Thank you! He seems very happy too ;D

thank you! Surprisingly he is less aggressive than my painted turtle, and he never bites...unless once, he bit me when i was feeding him pellets, he jumped up and grabbed the pellets...with my finger, just feels like a light pinch though, i've been bit by my painted a few times, out of the water, i was holding her and she just bit my finger....her bite was the same as the snappers. AHH, just saw that he ripped his filter..again..like its a filter that you put a white sponge pocket (filled with charcoal) thing in (he takes it out and rips it into pieces, and his water gets dirty...) so now ihave to change it after changing it last night...keeping turtles is such a bother...but its worth it in the ends! ;D;)

No kidding! I almost couldn't remember what a clean snapper shell looked like!
I too, have done the rescuing snappers from the road thing, and none of them were ever happy about it!
The thing I really love about them is their tails, they are so distinctive that I can easily spot a snapper in our local pond from pretty far away... and they almost remind me of... dinosaur tails! Very prehistoric looking turtles...
nice pics!

Thank you...i actually saved my painted turtle from the road, and my snapper too (they were both under the wheel of my car) ;).
Yes, i think so too, and the top of his head is really hard.... like alligator skin would feel, alteast i think cause i never felt one ::) but his neck, and feet are softer than any other turtles...its like snappers are a mix of a dinosaur, alligator, and a turtle...(and something else thats chubby and soft :D) i always thought that about his tail, with the large spikes. Also he has 2 spikes on his chin...wonder what that means...i think you can see on the pics...??? :)

Wow, you're right! I never noticed the chin spikes til you said that!
Hmmm.... has he had them his whole life? (or, since you've had him?)
Maybe they're egg teeth that never came off? Or digging aids since they like to burrow? Or there to impress the ladies? haha, I'll stop guessing now - maybe someone actually knows!

sorry fr the late reply i was going to write back but than i had to walk my dog...and then when i fianlly wrote it like 10 min. ago it got non responsive and went into the trash, so here i am re-writing it :-\
anyways i wanted to say that i don't think many people know about the horns (or spikes) one the Snappers' chins lol ;). he had it ever since he was around 5 months old (he is turtning a year on september 6), i had him since he was quater sized... but i think its a common thing that males have, see the pics?

so..it looks like they all have it...hmmm on one site before (forget where i think it was around 5 months ago?) that it means tht it is like the alpha (leader lol) ...:D but they don't really have a pack, it also said that if he has it he is the one that is the most strong and powerful from the batch of eggs....hmm you never know though right..how would you know how strong a snapper is (not talking jaw wise, you could find that out easy!)? oh well, lets leave it to nature, i mean they are sute... by the way i just also wanted to say that my snapper likes his neck/chin and his head being rubbed, its really cute....

Aquatic turtles can be messy little critters, no doubt about that. Their little personalities over ride any inconvenieces however.

Very cool. He's smaller than I thought he would be from the pix. Being from the midwest I see these guys all the time, esp. in MN. My parents have one that comes up each year to lay eggs near their house (or at least that's what they think it always comes up to their front yard each year). She's pretty good sized tho, about 12 inches long. Put a nice gash in one of my dog's nose too when she didn't listen to me to leave it alone. With that size, she's lucky she didn't lose the end of her nose.

Thanks! He's around 4 and a half inches shell length, & his neck and tail are around the same length as his shell. :)
If i were them i would incubate them ;D, guess that might be just me though, since not many people are into keeping snappers.
You mean with her claw? I'm not surprised, they are probably as big as my dogs...::)
Actually out of my two turtles, my painted has sharper claws like needles :o but my snapers are less pointy and sharp, my painted always scratches in the same place over and over when i carry her. Atleast my snapper calmed down after around 10 seconds, but my painted is calming...slowly

That doesn't look 3-4lbs lol.
And what do you mean they weren't happy about being rescued XD thats funny. Under the wheel of the car like in Toy Story 1. When woody almost gets his face smashed by the big rigs wheel? X)

Oh trust me, he is real heavy ;D and after lifting him i lift up my painted, and i'm thinking hmm is she too light, but only cause she's like 1/8 th my snappers weight.
what do you mean? Sorry did i write that somewhere, or was that someone else?
I did find both on roads, and the snapper was dying, dried up and with closed eyes, i had him in a cup with water, and he barely moved. I couldn't get him to eat till a week passed, but he was eating from his little egg sack.
My painted, she was on the road, behing my car, i would have killed her if i didn't see her, she was angry when i put her in a tank, but now she's got better, i mean its been 1 and a half years already ;)

Man, I wish I could find turtles laying around all over the place. Here they would probably be jerky by the time I found them.

I do too, but then i wouldn't be able to stop myself from keeping all of them, and i would have turtles everywhere...maybe i would have to get a new house with a big pond?
What is too upsetting is that i'm most likely to find a snapper of painted if i find a turtle, and your only legally allowed to keep 1 snapper and 1 painted :( I wouldn't be able to keep them!
An odd thing is that i was actually hoping to buy a turtle and i found my painted, i wanted to get another turtle baby for my painted to have a friend, and i didn't get any turtles, and found my snapper though they aren't friends and aren't even in the same tank....

Technically if they are outside in your pond, you are not actually KEEPING them... just encouraging them to stay. ;D
