So my little gtp that Chad and I got earlier this month has passed away. It happened a week ago. I have called the place that we got him from, and they haven't gotten back to me. Chad called them this afternoon and spoke with the guy. He said he will "do something for us" at the next reptile show. Not sure what that means, but we'll see.
I hate the fact that I had such little time with him! We only had him 3 weeks!!! He is in my freezer and I am going to find out what happened.

Thanks everyone. I was, and still, pretty upset about it. I have NEVER had a snake die on me!! And it's not like we don't know what we're doing.
Snake_eyes, he wasn't showing any signs. He ate for us about a week after we got him. Then a week later he was in shed so I decided to wait. Once he shed ( off his head ) I tried to feed him and he was just striking at it, not taking it. Next night, the same thing. The following morning, before turning the lights on, Chad checked to see if he could get him to feed and that's when he found him.
Snakewrangler, I purchased the snake from Ian and Ryan at Outback Reptiles. I was kinda hesitant in displaying that because I don't want this to smear their name or anything. Ian seemed very understanding when Chad spoke with him on the phone. He had said that he gives no garuantees on anything, but he remembers me ( we also purchased the albino granite ) and that he would do something for us at the next show.

I am sorry to hear about the snake- I know it is a real downer.
Outback carries a lot of wild-caught stuff...I guess its always a gamble...

Yeah poor guy/girl, we looked at him/her when we were up Christmas eve. Ame and I said the same thing that he looks as though he may have an enlarged heart. Again we're sorry for your loss guys.

We're good like that! ;)
To describe it, would be like a dog who starts to bloat. Except that in a snake when a heart is enlarged it will expand and look as if the snake has a rodent stuck in the area where the heart is. Which is just slightly behind the head or about 1/4 of the way down it's body when you include the head.
Just a little FYI, did you know that a snakes heart floats? This is so the rodents can pass easily. Also one thing that also makes snakes seem to be "lazy" more so then not. Their heart only has 3 chambers. The one top chamber gets blood pumped in which is Oxygen depleted. The other top chamber gets the Oxygen enriched blood from the lungs. From there both of the top chambers dump into the one lower chamber which inturn sends it circulating back through the body. So since the oxygen doesn't get distributed through the heart evenly, this makes the snakes want to rest often.
Here's a little test for you guys with blank spaces for you to put your answers. Snake disection may be graphic to some people.

No kidding???? Wow~ that really fascinating stuff! I copied the snake disection so I can look at it and find the answers. That is a very cool pic and I want to know what all of the guts are. I don't know anything about the inner workings of a snake (or a lizard, for that matter).
I'll say it again~ I have gleaned so much information in the last year just by being a member of this forum! I absolutely love this place!
