Looks like it might be a Chinese Mantis based on size and color. I'd have to see better pictures to be sure. To figure out if it's male or female, count the number of segments on the bottom of the abdomen. If i remember correctly, males have 6 and females have 7. If it's a female, keep some sticks in the cage with it, keep it well fed and it should drop a couple egg sacs for you. :) Mantids are fun to keep.
