Can anyone help me identify this little creature. It was flying around my house and I was about to kill it because I thought it was a wasp. It is not as you can see......

I suppose I could but they say they're not taking any e-mails in during early June. Thanks though. Maybe someone here can tell me before I'm able to e-mail those other folks.

Looks like a grasshopper or locust to me too.

I've neve seen a grasshopper like that. It flew like a wasp. But was smaller than one. I'll try looking online again.

hmm, i've never seen one fly like a wasp (if you mean hovering in the air). The ones I see just fly straight ahead. I dont know about locusts though. maybe those hover

Could be something closely related to a grasshopper or locust, but not as common.

It doesn't really resemble a grasshopper or a locust to me. At least none that I've seen around here. I tried looking at all sorts of insect sites but to no avail. I can't find this thing anywhere. It's driving me nuts!!!

Do you still have it? Can you take more pics at different angles or something? Maybe we just need a different view...

So, it DID hover like a wasp? We've got flying grasshoppers around here~ maybe they're locusts, I don't really know FOR SURE but they do fly. The cicadas are due to start buzzing any day now.

No I don't have it. I let it go outside. But it didn't really hover, but it had the flight pattern of a wasp and it had it's butt end hanging down also. If I find another one, I'll be sure to get better pics.
